Future Bearkats

A couple of weekends ago, all of my college roommates were able to come in town for 24 hours of pure fun! Before I go into the weekend, I must say that we have an unusual history. It is unusual in that we all met when we were freshmen at Sam, we lived together (mostly) for the last three years of college, and we remained friends! From what I've heard, living together can either make or break a friendship, especially among women. And, I'm not saying we didn't have some rocky times, but our friendship is now going on twelve years, and I think it's safe to say that we're in it for the long haul. In fact, if you've read my book, there is a chapter entitled Her Girls, and these are the four girls I write about in the beginning of that chapter.

Two years ago, to celebrate a decade of friendship, we all got together for a weekend at the campus that brought us all together...

Since then, a lot has changed. In just over a year, four of us became moms to little boys. But, because we're scattered everywhere from Lake Jackson to Houston to Dallas to South Carolina, this weekend was the first time all four boys got to be together. My, what a difference a year or two makes!

From left to right we have Smiley (Cameron), Serious (Cooper), Silly (Gideon), and Sweet (Brody).

It was great having all of the kids together, and it was even greater when they all went to bed! :-) But, looking at the pictures, I just can't help but note how extremely blessed I am to have friends like My Girls! Especially "Aunt Jennifer," who I will say has never once made any of us feel guilty that we're married and she is still waiting on God for that stage of life to begin. Lesser women would avoid a weekend like this at all costs, but thankfully, she hasn't let the bridesmaids dresses or baby showers harden her heart towards us, and is always willing to hop on a plane, visit her kids, and sleep on a couch if necessary!

And of course, we can't leave out Alexa, the other girl of the group who wasn't at all intimidated by a house full of toddler boys. She provided wonderful entertainment as well as a somewhat frightening preview of the logic of four year olds.

Alexa: Mommy, I want a drink.
Jen: Okay, go to the kitchen and get a drink.
Alexa: But Mommy, I don't want a drink!!

That about says it all!
