"M's!"
Here is what we've been up to lately...

Yes, Gideon has been wearing big-boy underwear and using the potty for a few weeks now. We got him a potty that plays music when you use it, which I first thought was over the top, but have since realized is quite helpful in letting us know when the deed has been done. And from watching my sister-in-law potty train her first boy, we adopted the "M & M" technique from day one. Each time he does his business, he gets a couple of "M's!" as he calls them. For awhile there, he was so excited every time he made the music play, he'd squeal out "M's!" and do this little jazz-hands thing with his hands until he got his prize. As usual, it was too cute for words. But all in all, the training is going better than I expected it to. We still have several milestones ahead of us to conquer, but I think the biggest hurdle is behind us. I can't even believe I'm already seeing this image in my baby boy's drawer. Where have the months gone?

Of course, I have to doubt my entire parenting abilities when I come to grips with the fact that my little boy has been wearing underwear for several weeks now and he STILL does not have Superman unddies!!! What kind of a mother am I?? Elmo. Mickey. Cars... And no Superman. I'm ashamed. (They didn't have them when we went shopping, but hopefully we will get them soon!)
Other than that, life is going good. I am going on a retreat with my Sunday School class this weekend up to my parents' lakehouse which will be lots of fun, but means two days away from the men in my life. I'm not too sure how I feel about that. I just can't get enough of this face!!

BTW, my apologies to all of my non-mom friends... I know that reading about someone else's child's bathroom habits is not exactly what you'd consider page-turning content, but I just had to share the initial news. I'll try to keep all potty talk to a minimum from now on! :-)
