First day of Play School!

Gideon started Play School at church today. After four years of having nothing but "Mommy Days," "Daddy Days," "Nana Days" and "Grandma Days," it was finally time for him to branch out. To prepare for the big day, we bought a special lunch box that he picked out and I made a special cover for his sleep mat out of material he picked out. (He asked me before I started sewing, "Mom, is that going to be that sleep-thing I'm going to bring with me to college?" - Uh, college? Try Play School, kid. And try the brakes while you're at it!) :-)

He was excited, but as per his personality, he was also a bit apprehensive about trying something new. He kept asking me, "What if I don't like it?" So when the big day came this morning, he was very careful not to show the enthusiasm I knew was really there.

The only reason he is smirking in this picture is that I just said, "Boogers!" to try to get him to smile.

However, when the day was over, he was spilling over with joy. He said more than once how much fun he had at Play School, and to make it even better, he got a special card because Sunday was his birthday! All of the kids and teachers signed it, and he likes it so much, he wants to tape it to his wall in his bedroom.

The sweetest part is that this morning, before I left to take Canaan to Grandma's, Gideon had to go out to the car and tell his little brother goodbye. Then, when he came home, the first thing he asked was, "Where's Canaan?" and went directly upstairs to wake him up and play with him. They definitely missed each other!

The two of them together is just hilarious these days. They are like two little crazies who speak their own little brother-language that consists of babbles, words, weird animal-like sounds, and laughter that only they understand. Gideon can make Canaan laugh harder than anything else in the world, and he loves every minute of it.

Here's how I catch them on a regular basis. Reading, laughing, and being silly together.

And the other day we were at the grocery store and Gideon was so sleepy, he put his head down and closed his eyes. So what did Canaan do? Well, he spent half the time patting Gideon's back and the other half snuggling up to him. Oh my goodness, boys, rip my heart out. You two are just too much!
